In partnership with the HSE’s Disability Services, the EOSS Respite Service supports people with an intellectual disability or autism and who may find it challenging to integrate into traditional social, educational or community systems.

The Respite Service provides respite for a number of children and adults with sensory needs and intellectual disabilities. Service users are referred to Extern by the HSE Disability Services CHO3 area on a case-by-case basis, having been approved funding.

The programme supports individuals to identify areas of potential growth that they would like to explore, and their keyworker will support them to identify steps to achieve goals that are important to them.

Through EOSS we:

  • Develop and implement bespoke independent living skills programmes.
  • Respond to behaviours of concern in line with a positive behaviour support model.
  • Support individuals to develop positive coping strategies during time of crisis.
  • Provide the opportunity for individuals to engage in activities and time away from home to promote wellbeing and maintain sustainable home placements.

EOSS is aligned with the HSE’s New Directions Principles, which promotes person-centeredness, community inclusion and active citizenship.
