The Extern Short Stay Break Service is a planned, or emergency, break as an alternative to being placed in short-term care, by providing three or four day social, educational, cultural and recreational respite to young people, aged 7-17.

Operating for over 30 years, the Extern Short Stay Break Service offers a structured break at our custom-built Roscor Youth Village or Kinahalla Youth Village, in Co Down, with a highly-experienced and trained staff team.
The Short Stay Break Service serves as a pivotal resource, granting social workers and caregivers the necessary time to identify stressors and establish connections to vital support networks.
Our dedicated staff are equipped with a diverse range of skill sets and possess a heightened sensitivity towards effective methods of support for children who have encountered trauma.
All referrals to our Time Out service are facilitated exclusively through social work departments, ensuring a streamlined process that prioritises the well-being and needs of the young individuals seeking our support.
