About the role

Are you passionate about supporting young people to thrive, even during challenging times? Join Extern’s Short Stay Break Service as a Key Worker, where you’ll play a vital role in helping young people (aged 8–17) reset, reconnect, and build brighter futures.

In this rewarding role, you’ll create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where young people can take a positive break from difficult situations. Through fun, meaningful activities - social, educational, cultural, and recreational - you’ll help them explore healthy choices, build confidence, and develop greater independence.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you’ll support young people during short stays of up to four days, giving families space to navigate challenges while helping prevent crises from escalating. Your work will support young people to return home with renewed confidence, stronger coping skills, and a more positive outlook.

Role: Complex Lives Intensive Support Worker

About the role

An exciting opportunity to join an innovative multi-agency pilot supporting some of the most complex and marginalised individuals in Belfast.

You will work intensively with a small caseload of around 10 people experiencing multiple challenges, including homelessness, substance use, mental ill health, offending behaviour, and trauma. Acting as a trusted key worker, you will coordinate and deliver wraparound, person-centred support plans developed through a Multi-Disciplinary Team approach.

Working closely with statutory and voluntary partners, you will help people access services, reduce harm, and move towards greater stability, safety, and wellbeing.

About the role

Extern delivers the Southside Youth Initiative, a Youth Diversion Project (YDP) in Southside Limerick City supporting young people at risk of, or involved in, anti-social or offending behaviour.

We provide early, community-based intervention to help young people build confidence, develop life skills, and make positive choices that improve their long-term education, employment, and life chances.

Our Family Support Workers play a key role in strengthening outcomes by working directly with parents and caregivers. Through tailored, one-to-one support, they help build parenting skills, increase resilience, and improve family and community connections.

Working as part of a multi-agency team, Extern delivers flexible, creative interventions that respond to real needs and make a lasting difference.
