Spring 2026 Parent Programme wraps up with wellness, brunch and certificates

Extern's Spring 2026 Parent Educational & Social Programme came to a close recently with a morning of wellness, celebration and reflection.

The final session opened with a meditation and wellness piece led by our wonderful Kaya, followed by brunch and the presentation of certificates. Three of our parents were able to join us on the morning — you can see them, along with the group, in the photos above.

New tools, new confidence, and well-deserved recognition. Big congratulations to these fantastic parents on their graduation day.

Running since mid-February, the programme was shaped around the parents' own needs and abilities. Over the weeks the group covered personal development, a domestic violence workshop delivered by Aoibhneas, money advice and budgeting with MABS, stages of child development, a "My Community" workshop, and an introduction to anger management skills.

Feedback from the group was overwhelmingly positive. One parent shared: "I am more confident in my parenting life at every stage. I would like to thank all the staff in Extern — they have supported me, they have helped, they gave me constructive criticism when needed, and I loved it. So much learning. Love you all and I will miss you." Another said: "The parent group was amazing, with so much knowledge each week — learning new tools to help me, finding out about services in my community, and getting to have space for myself."

What stood out most was the parents themselves: the skills, knowledge and encouragement they brought to one another each week, showing that everyone has something to offer. The programme was also a reminder of how valuable strong inter-agency links are across the community, helping us signpost the services and projects available to our families and young people.

It's been a rich few months of learning for parents and staff alike, and we're already looking forward to running the programme again in the Autumn.
