Extern has welcomed the announcement by Harm Reduction International (HRI) that Belfast will host the 29th Harm Reduction International Conference (HR27) from 9–12 May 2027. Extern will act as the local partner for the event.

The biennial conference is a worldleading global forum focused on harm reduction, drug policy, public health and human rights, and is expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates from over 80 countries.

The selection of Belfast reflects HRI’s commitment to hosting the conference in cities shaped by community resilience, social justice and reform. Belfast’s history of conflict, peacebuilding and ongoing change provides a meaningful setting for global conversations on evidencebased approaches that protect health, dignity and rights.
