Extern’s Pre-Budget 2026 Submission
Budget 2026 presents a vital opportunity to act decisively. By investing in what works, the Government can help prevent crises, reduce long-term costs and ensure that those already facing the most significant disadvantage are not pushed further into poverty and exclusion.
In a time of global uncertainty and rising demand, the need for sustainable, trauma-informed and person-centred support has never been greater. With the right investment, the Government can ensure that no one is left behind and that every individual can live a safer, healthier and more connected life.
Extern services are designed to intervene early, locally and with compassion, supporting those facing disadvantage.
Key asks include:
· Increased investment in community-based respite services to keep children safe, families together and costs down.
· The national expansion of the Bail Supervision Scheme (BSS), a proven community-based alternative to youth detention.
· Increased investment in individualised, community-based respite and day services for people with neurodiverse needs, helping families stay together and individuals thrive.
We urge decision-makers to act with compassion and foresight in Budget 2026, and to recognise the proven impact of services that place dignity, inclusion, and prevention at their core
