Extern Contributes to Landmark Report on Drug-Related Intimidation in Northern Ireland
Extern was proud to take part in the launch of a landmark report on Drug-Related Intimidation (DRI) in Northern Ireland, published by the Public Health Agency (PHA) and commissioned by the Executive Programme on Paramilitarism and Organised Crime (EPPOC).
The report provides the most comprehensive analysis to date of the prevalence, impact, and complexity of DRI across Northern Ireland, highlighting its devastating effects on individuals, families, and communities.
Key findings reveal that nearly 40% of people are aware of suspected or real incidents of drug-related intimidation in their area, while one in eight have experienced it directly within the past three years.
At the launch, Justice Minister Naomi Long and Health Minister Mike Nesbitt emphasised the urgent need for a coordinated, cross-sector response to address DRI, focusing on supporting those affected and reducing stigma
Extern was invited to present at the event, sharing insights from our frontline work and highlighting the real-life experiences of those impacted by intimidation. The organisation also showcased the practical ways its services help to reduce harm and build resilience within communities.
Extern continues to work in partnership with statutory agencies and communities to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support those affected by intimidation across Northern Ireland.
