Roscor Youth Village is a place where you really get to know yourself. For me, it was a place where I could conquer my fears, especially when I went cliff-jumping with my new friends!

It's things like this that make the Extern Difference a reality, because the staff and volunteers you work with at places like Roscor don't walk away - they will be by your side to help you through the difficult moments just as much as the lighter times.

"My Extern journey began after I had been getting in trouble with Gardai because of my behaviour. I had problems with controlling my anger and coping with my feelings."

The Juvenile Liaison Officer in Athy told me about the YDP and how it might be able to help me. I have been working with Extern now for a year and a half, and the staff have had a real impact on my life. They have taught me how to manage my feelings better and not get involved in negative or silly behaviour.

 They were able to show me what’s right and what’s wrong. The YDP programme can really turn your life around if you’re going down the wrong path. It gave me someone to talk to and, more importantly, the folks in Extern took time to listen to me.
