Ulster Rugby is inviting rugby and quiz fans alike from across the province to take part in its first ever virtual Big Christmas Quiz in support of Extern on Friday 4 December.

Kicking-off at 7.30pm, the quiz will be hosted on Ulster Rugby’s official Facebook and YouTube channels, and although free to take part, the club hopes the evening will help raise vital funds to support the work of its charity partner in the months ahead.

Register your interest here for the event through Extern’s website, and you will also be entered into a draw to win a £150/€160 One4all gift card.

Ulster winger Craig Gilroy will take the reins as quizmaster for the hour-long event and will be joined throughout the night by teammates Michael Lowry, Neve Jones, Kieran Treadwell, Ella Durkan and David McCann.

Participants can expect to be tested on their knowledge of the happenings of the past year, music, general knowledge, as well as Irish and Ulster Rugby. Spot prizes will be awarded to people who visit Extern’s website www.extern.org on the night.

People can also donate by texting EXTERN5 to 70970 to give £5 or EXTERN10 to 70191 to give £10.

Encouraging people to take part, Ulster Rugby CEO, Jonny Petrie said: “Normally Friday nights are occasions where rugby fans can come together under the lights at Kingspan Stadium. But with coronavirus, that can’t happen in the same way, so we’ve decided to create our first ever virtual Big Christmas Quiz with Extern to allow fans to Stand Up Together from home.

“We’re hoping as many people as possible will don their Christmas jumpers and join us for an evening of fun, while also helping to raise much needed funds for Extern and the work they do to support people who are feeling isolated and vulnerable in their communities.”

Grace O’Neill, Fundraising Manager for Extern, added: “We’re really grateful to the staff and players at Ulster Rugby for hosting this quiz during such a busy and successful season for them.

“The Ulster Rugby Big Christmas Quiz is a fantastic way to get into the Christmas spirit for everyone, not just rugby fans, and while the quiz is free for all, we would really welcome any donations to help enable Extern to give the gift of hope for a better future to people we support, now and in the months ahead.”

To join the quiz, participants simply need to visit Ulster Rugby’s official Facebook or YouTube channel shortly before the event goes live at 7.30pm on Friday 4 December. Participants can share their scores on social media and post pictures and team names using the hashtag #BIGULSTERRUGBYQUIZ

If you can’t make the event on the night, the quiz will be available to play online via Ulster Rugby and Extern’s Facebook pages, and the Extern website after the event.

Give the gift of hope this Christmas. Just £10 can buy a gift on the charity’s Tree of Hope and donations will support Extern’s projects, including its work with people who are living with mental health issues, homelessness, or have problems with drug and alcohol use.

You can visit www.extern.org/treeofhope for further details, to donate and leave a message of support.
