Floating Support delivers a flexible and responsive service to medium to high risk ex-offenders living in the community.

The service is funded by Supporting People and aims to support these individuals to make the transition from prison to the community, obtain suitable accommodation and maintain their tenancies.

The service also supports individuals to maintain positive mental health, counter social isolation, and most importantly avoid further offending. Interventions are based on the Good Lives model, building on strengths and tailored to the individual’s needs.

Individuals are allocated a key worker who agrees a support plan and goals for the intervention and Floating Support services can be delivered for between six months and two years.

Where required, staff can access additional specialist services including benefits advice and counselling services for the benefit of service users, and individuals, where appropriate, will be linked into employment and training opportunities, subject to appropriate risk assessment procedures.

Extern’s Floating Support provided support for a rolling number of 135 clients throughout 2019-20, supporting individuals and families with accessing temporary accommodation, as well as mainstream health and social care services.
