Stairway to Heaven Challenge

Step forward for Mental Health!  

Join us on Saturday 13th May to climb Cuilcagh Mountain’s famous ‘Stairway to Heaven’ boardwalk, hosted by Extern's Safe Together Project in celebration of Mental Health Week and in memory of those who have died from Mental health struggles. 

 

About the challenge  

The Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail, also nicknamed the Stairway to Heaven Walk, showcases the scenic wilderness of Cuilcagh Mountain.  

The 11km trail, which takes between 4-5 hours to walk, meanders through one of the largest expanses of blanket bog in Northern Ireland, traversing over tracks, wooden boardwalk and staircase, before a steep climb, weaving your way through a rugged boulder landscape to reach the viewing platform which is positioned at the edge of the mountain face.   

The viewpoint offers breath-taking views over the surrounding lowlands and is a great opportunity to take a well-deserved rest and get some incredible pictures before starting your descent. 

Walkers will be split into groups of approx 15 and will be accompanied by a fully qualified mountain leaders, who will look after you throughout the challenge, ensuring your safety and enjoyment of this fantastic challenge!

Registration fee: £/€20 per person 

Sponsorship Target: £/€100 

The fundraising team will be here to support you and can provide advice, fundraising merchandise, bespoke promotional materials and anything else you require. Free Extern T-shirt included! 

Sponsorship raised through the challenge will go towards supporting vulnerable and isolated individuals and families across Ireland who may be struggling due to mental health issues, homelessness or in need of emergency respite.
