Pathways

Pathways provides an educational service to young people at risk of exclusion from mainstream education who are also at risk of offending, entering into care custody. The project aims at provision of alternative, balanced and broad based education and training programmes for young people from six North Belfast schools in NI who are at serious risk of educational and social exclusion.

Referral Criteria:

  • Young people who fall within Hardiker levels 2 and 3.
  • Age range is 15-16 years.
  • Live within the defined geographical boundary.

Objectives:

  • Social inclusion - to intervene effectively and redress exclusion and marginalisation in education, in families and in communities.
  • Self Worth/Citizenship - To increase the young person's feelings of self worth and citizenship.
  • Employability / Qualifications - To provide relevant educational and vocational qualifications and experiences which will enhance employability.
  • Cross community - To promote and increased awareness of cultural identity, diversity and tolerance of others.
  • Partnership - To create effective partnerships which will meet the identified needs of the young people.
  • Dissemination - To disseminate project findings and encourage the incorporation of identified good practice within mainstream services.

Programme Content:

  • Basic essential skills.
  • Group work.
  • GCSE Courses.
  • Specialist subjects / training.
  • Individual tuitorials,
  • Industrial / vocational visits,
  • Pastoral care,
  • Vocational training placements and mentoring for leavers.

Working Hours:

Services are provided 9-5 Monday to Friday.

Staff Ratio: maximum of 1:6
